Jinn, Magic and the Evil Eye

tree

leaf67One of the main times that people are afflicted with magic is when they visit their countries of origin. Problems often start when they return.

There are various reasons why people usually do magic on others:

1) Out of sheer jealousy that you come from a western country or that you are happy and they are not. Shaytaan drives them out of hatred and jealousy to try and destroy what they themselves cannot have

2) Due to marriage - perhaps they wanted you to marry their child but you refused or you married someone else - so now they want to destroy your marriage or prevent you from marrying at all

3) Family feuds - there may have been conflict in the past and they are seeking revenge for something

4) The individual is purely evil and seeks to spread mischief and the handiwork of shaytaan on the earth. Sadly there are many people like this

In order to combat this there are a few things we should do

1) Maintain the 5 daily prayers and adhkar and increase in dua. Place your full trust in Allah and know that nobody can harm you except by the permission of Allah

2) Be extremely careful who prepares your food - if possible make it yourself or allow someone who you trust deeply to make it

3) Do not eat at the homes of other people unless you absolutely trust them and know them well - even still you should be be very careful. It is extremely easy to eat magic from the house of a person who seemed keen to entertain you as his guest because you came from abroad

4) Categorically do NOT allow anyone around your personal belongings especially underwear etc. Do not give any of your things to anyone if they ask for them and treat any missing items with suspicion. You should know who is coming in / out of your place of residence at all times

5) Do not allow people to take pictures of you for them to keep

This may seem very suspicious but it is the reality - we need to be cautious and careful but at the same time we shouldn't suspect everyone. Suspicion should not come into it without real reasons to be suspicious - otherwise just take your precautions and place your full trust in Allah alone.

May Allah protect us and our families. Aameen.

firaasahintuitionShaytaan tries to trick us in different ways. When we speak about Waswasah (Satanic Whispers), we think it only happens to make us sin, and perpetrate something forbidden. Others think it's to make our faith weak, yet many fail to realise that some are to destroy our lives. Hence, Waswasah happens:

To make us doubt our faith;

To make us doubt our acts of worship;

To make us sin;

To turn us against other believers;

To turn us against people who maintaining ties with will help us to keep our lives at an equilibrium (such as husband, relatives, in-laws);

To make us depressed, down, lonely, and to make us feel dejected;

To make us look silly and stupid;

To make us doubt ourselves, think low of ourselves, hurt ourselves;

To destroy our characters (making us argumentative, proud, haughty, stingy, jealous, etc.)

If a person falls into it trap, they will leave their lives in a state of chaos, lose their respect and peace of mind. So, the only option, O Muslim, is to battle these Waswaas as satan never wants good for us and wants to take the worse out of us. Also, remember that there are Shayaateen from both the humankind as well as the Jinn. In this article we will be predominantely be discussing the whispers of shaytaan, the Jinn:

وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

'And if an evil whisper from shaytaan tries to turn you away (O Muhammad, from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Indeed, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.' (Qur'aan, 41: 36)

What this means is that if the shaytaan whispers to you, commanding you to reciprocate the harm that is done to you and to gain revenge, then seek refuge in Allaah (swt) from shaytaan's evil whisperings. Unlike human beings, shaytaan does not change his stance or attitude when someone tries to treat him kindly; in his mind, the only way a person can win him over is by obeying his command to disobey Allaah (swt). Human beings, on the other hand, are open (at least in many cases) to being won over through kind acts of affection. This is why Islaam encourages Muslims to treat well those human beings who treat them badly. The shaytaan too treats Muslims badly, by ordering them to do evil, but the only way they can protect themselves from this harm is to seek refuge in Allaah (swt) from shaytaan's evil. Throughout the Noble Qur'aan, a clear explanation is given regarding the reality of the relationship between man and shaytaan, mainly in terms of this world and how Muslims should go about protecting themselves from his evil. (Noble life of the Prophet, Vol.1, Pg. 263-264, Dr. Ali Muhammad As-Sallaabee)

If a Muslim suffers from the satanic whispers (waswasah, plural: waswaas), whether that's against oneself, to cause self-inflicted harm or pain, whether about others, or to commit a sin and transgress the boundaries of Allaah, then s/he must try their utmost not to pay any attention to these whispers, and to ignore them, and to do the opposite of what they are calling you to do. For these whispers (waswaas) come from the Shaytan to cause grief to those who believe. The best way to deal with them is to remember Allaah a great deal (Dhikr), to seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytan, to keep away from sins and wrong actions which are the means by which Iblees gains control over the sons of Adam. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لَهُ سُلْطَانٌ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

“Verily, he [the Shaytaan] has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allaah).” [An-Nahl 16:99]

It is worth quoting here what Ibn Hajar al-Haythami (may Allaah have mercy on him) said about dealing with waswasah in his book al-Fataawa al-Fiqhiyyah al-Kubra, 1/149. This is what he said:

“He was asked about the problem of waswasah (insinuating whispers from the Shaytan), and whether there is a remedy for it.  He replied by saying that:

There is an effective remedy for it, which is to ignore them completely, no matter how frequently they may come to mind. When these whispers are ignored, they do not become established, rather they go away after a short time, as many people have experienced. But for those who pay attention to them and act upon them, they increase until they make him like one who is insane or even worse, as we see among many of those who have suffered from them and paid attention to them and to the devil whose task it is to insinuate these whispers, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) warned us against when he said, “Beware of the whispers with regard to water (i.e., wudoo/ablution) which is caused by a devil called Al-Walhaan” – because that causes a person to go to extremes with regard to doing Wudhoo', as was explained in Sharh Mishkaat al-Anwaar.

In al-Saheehayn there is a report which supports what has been mentioned above, which is that whoever suffers from waswaas should seek refuge with Allaah and turn away from the waswaas. So think about this effective remedy which was taught by the one who does not speak of his own whims and desires to his Ummah (followers), and understand that whoever is deprived of this is deprived of all goodness, because waswasah comes from the Shaytan, according to scholarly consensus, and the accursed one (the Shaytan) has no other desire than to make the believers go astray, make them confused, make their life a misery, cause them distress to the extent that they leave Islam without realizing it.

“Surely, Shaytan (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy” [Faatir 35:6 – interpretation of the meaning]

According to another Hadeeth (Prophetic Narration), the one who suffers from Waswasah should say, “Aamantu Billaahi wa bi rusulihi (I believe in Allaah and in His Messengers).” Undoubtedly, whoever thinks of the paths of the Messengers of Allaah, especially our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) will find that his path and his law is easy and clear, with no hardship in it.

  وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ ۚ

“… and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship” [al-Hajj 22:78 – interpretation of the meaning]

Whoever ponders this and believes in it sincerely, the problem of Waswasah and listening to the Shaytaan will go away. In the book of Ibn al-Sunni it is narrated via ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her),

“Whoever suffers from this waswaas, let him say ‘Aamantu Billaahi wa bi rusulihi (I believe in Allaah and in His Messengers)’, three times, and it will go away from him.”

Al-‘Izz ibn ‘Abd al-Salam and others mentioned something similar to the above. They said:

The treatment for Waswasah is to believe that this is an idea from the Shaytaan and that Iblees is the one who is bringing these thoughts to his mind, and he should strive to fight him. Then he will have the reward of the Mujaahid (warrior), because he is fighting the enemy of Allaah. If he does that, then the Shaytaan will flee from him. This is what mankind has been tested with from the beginning of time, and Allaah has given him (Iblees) some power over man as a test for him, so that Allaah may show the truth to be true and falsehood to be false, even though the disbelievers may hate that.

In Muslim, Hadeeth no. 2203, it is narrated that ‘Uthman ibn Abi’l-‘Aas said: “The Shaytaan was interfering with my prayer and recitation of Qur'aan. He [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] said: ‘That is a devil called Khanzab, so seek refuge with Allaah from him and spit drily to your left three times.’ I did that, and Allaah took him away from me.”

This Hadeeth proves that Waswasah can only overpower the one who is ignorant and confused and does not know what’s what. But the one who has knowledge and understanding will follow the Sunnah (Prophetic Teachings) and keep away from Bid’ah (innovation). The worst of the innovators are those who follow Waswaas, hence Imaam Maalik (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated that his Shaykh Ar-Rabee’ (r) – who was the Imaam of the people of his time – was the fastest of the people in relieving himself and doing Wudhoo'.

Ibn Hurmuz used to be slow in relieving himself and in doing wudoo, and he used to say “I have a problem, do not follow my example.”

An-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that one of the scholars thought it was Mustahabb (liked) for the one who was affected by Waswasah with regard to his Wudhoo' or prayer to say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, for when the Shaytaan hears Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah) he slinks away, and Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah is the best of Dhikr, and the most effective remedy for warding off waswasah is to remember Allaah a great deal.

abstract flowers0251 - Eating Dates

Eat seven pressed dates in the morning before eating any food if you can. Dates should preferably be from Al-Madinah. If this is not possible, then eat any pressed dates. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever eats seven pressed dates every morning before eating any food, will not be affected by poison or sihr!" (Al-Bukhari: 10/249, the Book of Medicine, Chapter: Treatment of sorcery with 'Ajwah.)

2 - Al-Wudhoo'

Sihr does not affect a person in a state of Wudhoo', for he is protected by an angel sent by the Merciful (Allaah). Ibn 'Abbaas (RA) reported: "The Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) said: 'Wash these bodies, and Allaah ('azza wa jall) will wash you. There is not a servant who sleeps in a state of Wudhoo', but that an angel accompanies him in his clothes; and there is not a moment that he moves in bed, but that the angel says: 'O Allaah! Forgive Your Servant, for he has slept in a clean state." (Transmitted by At-Tabarani in Al-Awsat. According to Al-Mundiri, the chain of transmission is very good (At-Targhib: 2/13)).

3 - Observing congregational Salaah

Observing Salaah in congregation secures a Muslim person from Satan, and neglecting it makes Satan dominate him. And if Satan dominates a person, he harms him with Sihr and other things which he can easily do. Aboo Ad-Dardaa' (RA) reported: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) say: 'There are not three people in a town or in the countryside who do not observe congregational Salaah, but that Satan dominates them. Remain with the community, for the wolf seizes the solitary sheep moving away from the flock.'" (Al-Bukhari: (Fath Al-Bari 3/34) and Muslim: (An-Nawawi: 6/63).)

4 - Qiyaamu Al-Layl (Observing optional Salaah during the night)

Whosoever wishes to protect himself against Sihr should observe Salaah during the night. Neglecting it allows Satan to dominate a man. If he does, then you will make yourself a hot-bed for the effect of Sihr on you. Ibn Mas'ood (RA) reported: "When the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) was asked about his opinion of a man who slept until Salaatul-Fajr, without waking up for Qiyyamul-Layl, he said that Satan urinated in the man's ear.'" (Aboo Dawud: 1/150 (a sound chain of transmission).)

Sa'eed Ibn Mansoor reported: "Ibn 'Umar (RA) said, 'Not a man wakes up in the morning without having observed Salaahul-witr, but that a rope measuring approximately seventy cubits will be put over his head in the morning."' (According to Al-Hafiz, a very good chain of transmission (Fath: 3/25))

5 - Istiaa'dah - Seeking refuge with Allaah ('azza wa jalla) upon entering the toilet

A Muslim should seek refuge with Allaah ('Azza wa Jalla) upon entering the toilet, because Satan takes advantage of the Muslim's presence in the toilet in order to harm him in this filthy place which is the home of Satanic Jinn. One day, a Jinn informed me that he entered and possessed a person because he did not seek refuge in Allaah upon entering the toilet. However, Allaah supported me in driving him out of that person.

Furthermore, one Jinn told me that Allaah ('azza wa jalla) has given us a strong weapon to conquer them, but we do not use it. I asked him what was it, and he said:

'The invocations laid down by the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him).'

It is confirmed that the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) used to say the following invocation upon entering the toilet: "Allaahumma innee a'oodhu bika minal-khubthi wal-khbaa'ithi (O Allaah! I seek refuge in you from the male female Satans.)" (Al-Bukhaari. (Fath Al-Bari: 1/292) and Muslim: (An-Nawawi: 4/70).)

6 - Seeking refuge with Allaah ('azza wa jalla) upon starting Salaah

Jubayr Ibn Mut'im reported: "I (peace be upon him) the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) say: 'Allaahu akbaru kabira, walhamdu lillahi kathira, wa subhanAllaahi bukratan wa asila' three times (and): A'uzu billahi mina shaytani rajimi min nafkhihi wa nafthihi wa hamzihi (Allaah ('Azza wa Jalla) is the Greatest, much Praise be to Allaah if, and Glory be to Allaah if in the morning and in the evening. I seek refuge with Allaah ('Azza wa Jalla) from the Satan's arrogance, poetry, epilepsy and lunacy.) (Aboo Dawud (1/203); classed by Al-Albani as authentic.)

7 - Protecting one's new wife against Sihr at the time of marriage

Soon after concluding the marriage contract, put your right hand upon her forehead and say:

'Allaahumma innee as'aluka khayrahaa wa khayra maa jabaltha 'alayhi, wa a 'uzu bika min sharrihaa wa sharri ma jabaltha 'alayhi' (O Allaah! I ask you for any good that may come from her and any good that You have created in her natural disposition, and seek refuge with you from any evil that may come from her, and any evil that You have created in her natural disposition). (Abi Dawud; according to Al-Albani, a sound chain of transmission (151).)

8 - Initiating Marital Life with Salaah

'Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood (RA) said: "On your wedding night; that is on the night when the marriage is to be consummated for the first time; and before intercourse, do two rak'as and ask your wife to follow suit behind you, and say the following invocation:

'Allaahumma barik li fi ahlee, wa barik lahum fiyya, Allaahumma ijma' baynanaa ma jama'ta bikhayr, wa farriq baynanaa idhaa farraqta bikhayr.' (O Allaah! Make my wife blessed for me and make me blessed for her. O Allaah! If You unite us, unite us on what is good, and if you separate us, separate us on what is good.) (Transmitted by At-Tabarani, and classed by Al-Albani as authentic.)

9 - Protection from the Satan during intercourse

Ibn 'Abbaas (RA) reported: "The Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) said, 'If you say the following invocation during sexual intercourse, and a baby is conceived, Satan would never harm that baby.: 'Allaahumma jannibna ash-shaytaan wa jannibi ash-shaytaan maa razaqtanaa' (O Allaah! Keep us away from Satan, and keep Satan away from any blessing you bestow on us.) (Al-Bukhari (Fath Al-Bari: 1/291) and Muslim.)

One Jinn told me, after his conversion to Islaam and repentance, that he used to take part in a man's sexual intercourse with his wife, because that man did not say the above invocation. Glory be to Allaah! We have so many valuable treasures but we do not appreciate their value.

10 - Make Wudhoo' before going to bed, recite Aayatul Kursi

Make Wudhoo' before going to bed, recite Aayatul Kursi and invoke Allaah in bed until you fall asleep. It is confirmed that Satan told Aboo Hurayrah (RA):

"Whosoever recites Aayatul Kursi before going to bed, he will be guarded by Allaah ('azza wa jalla) and no Satan will approach him throughout the night."

The Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him) confirmed the Satan's statement and told Aboo Hurayrah:

"Satan told you the truth, but he is a liar." (Al-Bukhaari (Fath Al-Baari: 6/338) and Muslim (An-Nawawi: 17/17).)

11 - Laa ilaaha illaaAllaah

Say: 'Laa ilaaha illaaAllaah wahdahu laa shareeka lahoo lahulmuk wa lahulhamdu wa huwwa 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer' 100 times after Salaahul Fajr.

The Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him) said that: "Whosoever says it will have a reward equal to the manumission of 10 slaves, will have ten good deeds added to and ten bad deeds erased from his register, and will be protected by this supplication the Satan throughout the day until the evening. No one is better than he who says this supplication except a man who says more."

12 - Entering the Mosque

'A'oodhu billaahi al-' azeemi, wa biwajhihi al-karimi, wa sultanihi al-qadimi minash-shaytani ar-rajimi' (I seek refuge in Allaah, the All-Magnificent, His Face the All-Glorious, and His Sovereignty the All-Antiquated, from Satan the outcast.) It is confirmed that the Prophet entering the mosque said, "Whenever a Muslim says the above invocation, Satan says, 'He is defended against me for the rest of the day.'" (Aboo Daawood: 1/127)

13 - Invocation

Say the following invocation, three times in the morning and three times in the evening:

'Bismillahi al-ladhee laa yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardhi wa laa fis-samaa' wa huwwaas-sami'u al-'aleem' (In the Name of Allaah, with Whose Name nothing harms, on earth and in Heavens, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Aware.) (At-Tirmidhi: 5/133)

14 - Leaving the house

Upon leaving the house say: 'Bismillahi tawakkaltu 'ala Allaahi la hawla wala quwwata illa billahi' When you say it, you will be told (without your awareness): "You have been spared, protected and guided" The Satan will keep away from you and will tell another: "What can you do to a man who has been guided, protected and spared?" (Aboo Dawud: 4/325 and At-Tirmidhi: 5/154.)

15 - Say: 'A'oodhu bikalimaati Allaahi at-tammaati min sharri ma khalaq

In the morning and in the evening. Muslim: (An-Nawawi: 17/32)

Protective measures against the Evil Devils

amazingsceneSaying Bismillah when eating and drinking

It was narrated that 'Umar ibn Abi Salamah (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon Him) said: "Say Bismillaah and eat with your right hand." (Fath Al-Bari, 7/88. Muslim, 3/1599, no. 108.)

It was narrated that Jaabir (RA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) say: "When a man enters his house and remembers Allaah upon entering and when eating, the Shaytaan says: 'You have no place to stay and no dinner.' If he enters and does not remember Allaah upon entering, the Shaytan says: 'You have found a place to stay.' And if he does not remember Allaah when eating, he says: 'You have found a place to stay and dinner.'" (Saheeh Muslim, 3/1598, no. 103.)

It was narrated that Hudhayfah (RA) said: When we ate with the Prophet (peace and blessing upon Him), we would not stretch forth our hands until the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) stretched forth his hand first. We were going to eat with him one time, when a young girl came rushing as if she were being pushed. She went to stretch forth her hand to the food, but the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) took hold of her hand. Then a Bedouin came rushing as if he were being pushed, and he took hold of his hand. Then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said: "The Shaytan regards food as permissible (for himself) if the Name of Allaah is not mentioned over it. He brought this girl so that the food might become permissible for him through her, but I took her hand. Then he brought this Bedouin so that the food might become permissible for him through him, but I took his hand. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, his hand is in mine along with her hand." (Saheeh Muslim, Kitab Al-Ashribah, 3/1597, no. 102.) Then he mentioned the Name of Allaah and began to eat.

It was narrated that the Sahaabi, Umayyah ibn Makhshi (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) was sitting and a man was eating who did not mention the Name of Allaah until there was only one morsel left of his food. When he raised it to his mouth, he said: "In the Name of Allaah at the beginning and at the end of it." The Prophet laughed and said: The Shaytaan kept eating along with him, but when he mentioned the Name of Allaah, he (the Shaytan) vomited what was in his belly." (Sunan Abee Dawud, 3/140, no. 3768; Al-Nasa'i, 'Ami Al-Yawm Wa'l-Laylah, p. 102, no. 283.)

Do you not see the importance of mentioning the Name of Allaah when you start to eat or drink? The scholars (may Allaah have mercy on them) are unanimously agreed that it is Mustahabb to mention the name of Allaah when one starts to eat or drink, but if a person omits to do so for some reason then becomes able to do so whilst eating, it is Mustahabb to say "Bismillahi awwalahoo wa akhirahoo (in the Name of Allaah at the beginning and at the end)." It is also Mustahabb to say it out loud so as to remind others and set an example for them.

What should be said when entering the house?

It is Mustahabb to say when entering one's house: 'Bismillaah, As-salaamu 'Alaykum' (in the Name of Allaah, peace be upon you), whether there are any humans in the house or not, because Allaah says:

فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُم بُيُوتًا فَسَلِّمُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِكُمْ تَحِيَّةً مِّنْ عِندِ اللَّهِ مُبَارَكَةً طَيِّبَةً ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

"...But when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allaah (i .e. say: As-salamu 'alaykum — peace be on you), blessed and good..." (Al-Nur 24:61)

It was narrated that Anas said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon Him) said: "O my son! When you enter upon your family, greet them with Salaam; it will be a blessing from Allaah upon you and upon the people of your household.' (Sunan Al-Tirmidhi, Bab Maja'a Fi'l-taslim Idha Dakhala Baytihi.)

It was narrated that Aboo Malik Al-Ash'ari (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said: "When a man enters his home, let him say: "'Allaahumma inni asaluka khayra al-mawlij wa khayr Al-makhraj, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Allaahi rabbina tawakkalna' (O Allaah! I ask of You the best entering and the best exit. In the Name of Allaah we have entered and in the Name of Allaah we have exited, and in Allaah our Lord have we put our trust) then let him greet his family with Salaam." (Sunan Abi Dawud, Kitab Al-Adab, 5/328, no. 5096; classed as Saheeh by Al-Albani (may Allaah have mercy on him).)

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn 'Abdullah (RA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (Peace and Blessing upon Him) say: "When a man enters his house and mentions Allaah when he enters and when he eats, the Shaytaan says: '(You have) no place to stay and no supper.' If he enters and does not mention Allaah when he eats, (the Shaytaan) says: 'You have found a place to stay and supper.'" (Saheeh Muslim, 3/1598, no. 103.)

In the Muwatta' of Imaam Maalik it is narrated that he heard that it is Mustahabb when entering an uninhabited house to say: "As-salamu 'alayna wa 'alaa 'ibaad-illahis-saliheen (peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allaah)." (Al-Muwatta', Kitab Al-Salam, Bab Jami' Al-Salam, vol. 2, p. 962, no. 8.)

What a person should do and say if he gets angry

Anger is one of the evil whispers of the Shaytaan. Allaah says:

"And if an evil whisper from Shaytan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Verily, He is the All Hearer, the All Knower."

(Fussilat 41:36)

It was narrated that the Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) Sulaymaan ibn Surad (RA) said: I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) and two men traded insults. One of them turned red in the face and became furious, and the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said:

"I know a word which, if he said it, what he is experiencing would goaway. If he said, 'A'oodhu billaahi min As-shaytaanir-rajeem (I seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytan),' what he is experiencing would go away."

They said to him: "The Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) said: "Seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytan."

He said: "Am I insane?" (Fath Al-Bari, Kitab Bad' Al-Khalq, Bab Sifat Iblis, 6/151; Saheeh Muslim, 4/5/20, no. 109.)

It was narrated that 'Aa'ishah (RA) said: The Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) entered upon me when I was angry. He took hold of the end my nose and tweaked it, then he said:

"O 'Uwayyish (diminutive form of 'Aa'ishah), say: ;Allaahummaghfir lee dhanbi wa adhhib ghayda qalbi, wa ajirni min as-Shaytaan' (O Allaah, forgive my sin, take away the anger in my heart, and protect me against the Shaytaan)."

It was narrated that the Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him), 'Atiyyah ibn 'Urwah As-Sa'di (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (Peace and Blessing upon Him) said: "Anger comes from the Shaytaan, and the Shaytaan was created from fire. Fire is extinguished by water, so if one of you becomes angry, let him do Wudhoo'." (Sunan Abee Daawood, Kitaab Al-Adab 5)

It is Mustahabb for the one whom the Shaytan provokes to anger to suppress his anger and to seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytan. Then he should hasten to do Wudhoo', and remember that the reward with Allaah for suppressing his anger is great.

It was narrated from the Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessing upon Him) Mu'aadh ibn Anas Al-Juhani (RA) that the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) said: "Whoever suppresses his anger when he is able to act upon it, Allaah will call him before all creatures on the Day of Resurrection and let him choose whoever he wants from among Al-Hoor." (Sunan Abi Dawud, Kitab Al-Adab, 5/137, no. 4777; Sunan Al-Tirmidhi, Kitab Al-Birr, no. 2022. [2] Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Kitab Al-Anbiya', 4/179.)

Prayer for protection for a child

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbaas (RA) said: The Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him) used to seek protection for Al-Hasan and Al- Husayn (may Allaah be pleased with them): "Aa'udhu bi kalimaat-Allaah il-taammah min kulli shaytaanin wa haammah wa min kulli 'aynin lammah" (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from every devil and poisonous reptile, and from every envious evil eye.)

And he would say:

"Your father (i.e., Ibraheem) used to seek protection by means of them (these words) for Isma'eel and Ishaaq." (Saheeh Al Bukhaari, Kitaab al Anbiyaa', 4/179.)

What is to be said by one who is suffering from loneliness

beautifulpurpleIt was narrated from Al-Waleed ibn Al-Waleed (RA) that he said: "O Messenger of Allaah, I feel lonely." He said: "When you go to bed, say:

"A'udhoo bi kalimaatillaahit-tammaati min ghadhabihi wa 'iqaabihi wa min sharri 'ibaadihi wa min hamazaat as-shayaatin wa an yahduroon (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from His wrath and punishment, and from the evil of His slaves, and from the whispers of the devils and from their being present), then they (the devils) will not harm you or come near you." (Ibn Al-Sunni: Ma Yaqul Idha Akhadha Madja'ahu, p. 201, no. 705.)

It was narrated that Al-Baraa' ibn 'Aazib (RA) said: A man came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) and complained to him of loneliness. He said: "Repeat often (the words): 'Subhanal-malik al-quddoos, rabbil-maala'ikati war-rooh, jalata Al-samaawati wa'l-arda bi'l-'izzah wa'l-jabaroot' (Glory be to the Sovereign, the Noble, Lord of the angels and of the Spirit, You have encompassed the heavens and the earth with Glory and Might.)" The man said it, and his loneliness disappeared. (Ibn Al-Sunni, Baab my Yaqul Man Ubtuliya Bil-wahshah, p. 206, no. 633.)

The best that can be said by one who is suffering from loneliness is: "Aa'oodhu billahil-sami' il-'alim min ah-shaytaanir-rajeem" (I seek refuge with Allaah, the All-Hearing, All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaytan.)

Allaah ('Azza wa Jalla) says:

"And if an evil whisper from Shaytan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Verily, He is the All Hearer, the All Knower."

(Fussilat 41:36)

It was narrated that Aboo Hurayrah (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said: "The Shaytaan will come to one of you and say: 'Who created such and such? Who created such and such?" Until he says, 'Who created your Lord?' If it comes to that, then seek refuge with Allaah and stop thinking about it."

According to a version narrated in Al-Saheeh: "The people will continue to ask questions until it is said: 'This is the creation of Allaah, but who created Allaah?' Whoever sees any of that, let him say, I believe in Allaah and His Messengers." (Fath Al-Bari, Bab Sifat Iblis, 4/149)

It was narrated that 'Aa'ishah (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said: "Whoever experiences anything of this Waswaas (whispers from the Shaytan), let him say: 'I believe in Allaah and His Messengers' three times, then that will go away from him." (Ibn Al-Sunni, Bab Ma Yaqul Man Ubtuliya Bi'l-waswasah, p. 181, no. 626.)

It was narrated that 'Uthmaan ibn Abi'l-'Aas (RA) said: I said: "O Messenger of Allaah! The Shaytaan has interfered between me and my prayer and recitation, and has confounded me." The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon Him) said: "That is a devil called Khinzab. If you notice that, then seek refuge with Allaah from him and spit drily to your left three times." I did that, and Allaah took that away from me." (Saheeh Muslim, Kitab As-Salam, Bab Al-Ta'awwudh Min Shaytan Al-waswasah Fil-salah, 4/1728, no. 68.)

It was narrated that Aboo-Zamil said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas (RA): "There is something I find in my heart." He said: "What is it?" I said: "By Allaah I cannot speak of it." He said to me: "Is it some sort of doubt?" He smiled and said: "No one was spared from that until Allaah revealed the Words:

فَإِن كُنتَ فِي شَكٍّ مِّمَّا أَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ فَاسْأَلِ الَّذِينَ يَقْرَءُونَ الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ لَقَدْ جَاءَكَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ

"So if you O Muhammad are in doubt concerning that which We have revealed unto you, then ask those who are reading the Book before you. Verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So be not of those who doubt (it)." (Yunus 10:94)

He said to me: "If you feel anything in your heart, then say:

هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآخِرُ وَالظَّاهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

"He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him). And He is the All-Knower of every thing." (Al-Hadeed, 57:3)

In Saheeh Muslim it is narrated with his Isnaad in the letter of Aboo'l-Qaaim Al-Qushayri that Ahmad ibn 'Ata' Al-Rawdhabari Al-Sayyid Al- Jalil said to me: I am experiencing Waswas with regard to purification (Tahaarah); I felt anxious one night because I had used so much water, and my heart would not rest. I said: 'O Lord, Your forgiveness, Your forgiveness.' Then I heard a voice crying out:

Forgiveness is in knowledge.

Then that (anxiety) left me."

One of the scholars said that it is Mustahabb for the one who suffers from Waswaas with regard to Wudhoo' or prayer to say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah (there is no god but Allaah), for if the Shaytan hears Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah), he withdraws and goes away, and the phrase Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah (there is no god but Allaah) is the best of Dhikr.

And they (the scholars) said that the most effective remedy for warding off waswas is to remember Allaah a great deal (Dhikr).

One of the Imaams said that:

It is only those who are most perfect in faith who are tested with Waswaas, for the thief does not target a ruined house.

Al-Sayyid Al-Jalil Ahmad ibn Abi'l-Hawari said: "I complained to Aboo Sulayman Al-Darani about Waswaas and he said:

'If you want it to stop, then whenever you notice it, rejoice, for if you rejoice in it, it will stop, because there is nothing more annoying to the Shaytan than the happiness of the believer.'

What should be said by one to whom the Shaytan appears or who is frightened by him

"And if an evil whisper from Shaytan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Verily, He is the All Hearer, the All Knower."

(Fussilat, 41:36)

"And when you Muhammad recite the Qur'an, We put between you and those who believe not in the Hereafter,

an invisible veil (or screen their hearts, so they hear or understand it not)." (Al-lsraa', 17:45)

The one to whom the Shaytaan appears should do the following:

1. He should say: "A'oodhu billaahis-samee'il-'aleem min al-shaytaanir-rajeem" (I seek refuge with Allaah, the All-Hearing, All-Knowing, from the accursed Shaytan).

2. He should constantly read the Qur'aan (he should have a daily Wird)

3. He should give the Adhaan, as pne does for prayer.

It was narrated that Aboo'l-Darda' said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) stood up to pray, and we heard him say: "I seek refuge with Allaah from you." Then he said: "I curse you with the curse of Allaah," three times, and he stretched out his hand as if to take something. When he had finished praying, we said: "O Messenger of Allaah, we heard you say during the prayer something that we have never heard you say before, and we saw you stretching out your hand." He said: "The enemy of Allaah Iblees came with a brand of fire to throw it in my face, and I said, 'I seek refuge with Allaah from you,' three times.

Then I said: I curse you with the complete curse of Allaah' and he retreated three times. Then I wanted to seize him, and by Allaah, were it not for the prayer of my brother Sulayman, this morning he would have been tied up and the children of the people of Madinah would be playing with him." (Saheeh Muslim, Bab Jawaz La'n As Shaytan, 1/385.)

It was narrated from Sahl ibn Abi Salih that he said: My father sent me to Banu Harithah and there was a slave of ours —or a friend of ours—with me. Someone called him by name from behind a wall, and the one who was with me looked over the wall but did not see anything. I told my father about that and he said: "If I had realized that this would happen to you I would not have sent you. But if you hear a voice, give the call to prayer, for I heard Aboo Hurayrah narrating that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said: "If the call to prayer is given, the Shaytaan runs away." (Saheeh Muslim, Kitab Al-Salah, Bab Fadl Al-Adhan wa Hurub Al-Shaytan, 1/290-291.)

What should be said by one who hears the crowing of a rooster, the braying of a donkey and the barking of a dog?

It was narrated from Aboo Hurayrah (RA) that the Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him) said: "If you hear the braying of a donkey then seek refuge with Allaah from the Shaytaan, for it has seen a devil. If you hear the crowing of a rooster, then ask Allaah of His bounty, for it has seen an angel." (Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Kitaab Bad' Al-khalq, 4/155.)

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn 'Abdillaah (RA) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessing upon him) said: "If you hear the barking of a dog and the braying of a donkey at night, then seek refuge with Allaah, for they see what you do not see." (Sunan Abi Dawud, Kitaab Al-Adab, 5/332, no. 5103)

What should be said by one to whom ghouls appear

Ghouls (Arabic Ghul, pl. Ghilan) are a type of jinn, and it is said that they are the sorcerers of the jinn. They may appear in various forms, but their evil may be warded off by the Adhaan.

It was narrated from Jabir that the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) said: "If the ghouls appear to you, then give the call to prayer." (Ibn Al-Sunni, Bab Idha Taghawwalat Al-ghilan, p. 153, no. 524.)

That is because the Adhaan makes the Shaytaan flee

What should be said by one who stops in a new place?

It was narrated that Khawlah bint Hakim (RA) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (Peace and Blessing upon Him) say: "Whoever stops in a place and then says: A'oodhu bi kalimaat-illah il-tammaati min sharri ma khalaq (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from the evil of that which He has created),' nothing will harm him until he moves on from that stopping-place." (Saheeh Muslim, 4/2080, no. 54)

How to protect yourself against witchcraft?

The doctors say that prevention is better than cure. We say:

The best cure for witchcraft is to protect yourself from it before it happens. If the evil witch who has sold his soul to the Shaytaan seeks the help of the Shaytaan to achieve his evil aims, Islaam has told us how the Muslim may protect himself and his family from the Shaytaan. The Muslim must follow the means described below in order to protect himself from the evil of witchcraft and its practitioners.

Strengthening oneself with faith

hijabmaroonThe Muslim must strengthen himself and affirm his belief in Tawhid. In this manner he strengthens his faith and dispels fear of anything other than Allaah from his heart, and reinforces the belief that benefit and harm are both in the hand of Allaah alone. The Muslim should understand that these means are like the movements of the wind, which are in the hand of their Controller and Creator, and cannot cause any harm or bring any benefit except by Allaah's Leave. Allaah says concerning the witches:

وَمَا هُم بِضَارِّينَ بِهِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ

"But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allaah's leave." (Al-Baqarah, 2:102)

And Allaah says:

"And if Allaah touches you with harm, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favour." (Yunus, 10:107)

Whoever is a slave to Allaah, following His commands at times of hardship and of ease, focusing all his fear on Allaah, is included in the Verse in which Allaah says:

أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ بِكَافٍ عَبْدَهُ ۖ وَيُخَوِّفُونَكَ بِالَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِ ۚ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ هَادٍ

"Is not Allaah Sufficient for His slave?" (Al-Zumar, 39:36)

Attaining complete submission and servitude to Allaah ('Ubudiyyah) brings complete protection, and the Shaytan has no authority over them, as Allaah says:

إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ

"Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves." (Al Hijr, 15/42)

The one who is strong in faith, protected by Allaah and under His care, is rarely affected by witchcraft. The witches themselves know that their spells can ortly affect those who are weak.

Regularly reciting the Adhikr for morning and evening

One of the greatest means of protecting oneself against witchcraft is to persist in regularly reciting the Adhkaar for morning and evening. They prevent against witchcraft before it happens, protecting one against it and warding off its evil, and remedying it if it does happen. Imaam Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Among the most effective divinely-prescribed remedies for witchcraft, indeed the only thing that works, for the effects of evil souls and warding off their effects can only be by means of that which opposes and resists them, namely Dhikr, the Qur'anic Verses and Du'as which cancel out their actions and effects. The stronger they are the further they will spread. This is like the meeting of two armies, each of which has its equipment and weapons with it; whichever of them overpowers the other and subdues it will emerge the victor.

If the heart is filled with remembrance of Allaah and has Du'as, Dhikrs, prayers for refuge and a Wird which it never fails to recite, in which the person focuses with his heart and mind, this will be one of the greatest means of warding off witchcraft before it strikes and it is one of the greatest remedies for it after it has struck. The witches know that their witchcraft can only fully have an effect on hearts which are weak and easily influenced, those that are ruled by whims and desires and attached to trivial matters. Hence those who are usually affected are women, children and those who are ignorant and those who live in remote regions, or whose faith, trust in Allaah and belief in Tawhid are weak, and who do not have a Wird, Du'as and prayers for refuge which they recite regularly. In conclusion, their influence usually affects those who are weak and easily influenced, and are inclined towards trivial things.

They said: The victim is the one who allows witchcraft to affect him, for we find his heart is attached to things on which he focuses a great deal, so they control his heart by means of the things towards which he is inclined. The evil souls are only able to gain control over souls which are ready to be overpowered because their hearts are already inclined towards something that is convenient for those evil souls and because they are devoid of spiritual strength and are not prepared to resist. So you find them empty, with no strength or means to fight, inclined towards something convenient, so they overpower them and are able to influence them by witchcraft and other means.

Imaam Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi narrated a lengthy Hadith from Al-Haarith Al-Ash'ari, in which the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) said:

"... and I enjoin you to remember Allaah, for this is like a man who is being pursued by the enemy, then he comes to a strong fortress and saves himself from them. Similarly a man cannot save himself from the Shaytan except by means of Dhikr." (Narrated by Ahmad in Al-Musnad, 408/202; Al-Tirmidhi, no.2867. This is a Saheeh Hadith.)

Eating 'Ajwah dates on an empty stomach

'Ajwah: a kind of date grown in Madinah

Al-Bukhaari narrated in his Saheeh from 'Amir ibn Sa'd that his father said: The Prophet (Peace and Blessing upon Him) said: "Whoever eats 'Ajwah dates every morning will not be harmed by poison or witchcraft all that day until night comes." (Fath Al-Bari, 10/249.)

Someone else said: "Seven dates." And according to another report: "Whoever eats seven 'Ajwah dates in the morning, will not be harmed that day by poison or witchcraft."

Whoever persists in eating 'Ajwah dates on an empty stomach, with the proper intention and with trust in Allaah and the words of the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) will be as it were inoculated against witchcraft, and neither witchcraft nor poison will harm him. Some of the scholars explained that one of the characteristics of dates is that they are "hot", and that this is sufficient to ward off disease, but the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) mentioned specific protection against witchcraft. It seems, and Allaah knows best, that dates contain something unknown to us that protects against poison and witchcraft. We believe in the word of the truthful one (the Prophet (peace be upon him)), even if we do not know how that works. There is no doubt that the dates of Madinah possess special qualities, but if dates of Madinah are not available, then any dates will do Inshaa'Allaah.

One of the greatest means of protecting oneself against the evil of witchcraft is not going to witches

Because no benefit can come from them for the one who has been harmed, and the one who has nothing wrong with him will not be safe from their harm. The devils who work with the witch know full well that the Muslim man or woman who knocks at the door of the witch is weak in faith and does not put his or her trust in Allaah, so it is easy for them to possess them.

Ten ways of avoiding the harm of the Jinn and protecting oneself against the devils

1. Seeking refuge with Allaah from the traps of the devils
2. Reciting Al-Falaq and An-Naas, because it was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessing upon him) used to seek refuge with Allaah from the jinn and the evil eye of people, until these two Surahs were revealed
3. Reciting Ayat Al-Kursiyy
4. Reciting Surah Al-Baqarah
5. Reciting the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah
6. Reciting the first part of Surah Ghaafir
7. Frequently repeating the words:"Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa sharika lahu, lahu'l-mulk wa lahu'l-hamd wa huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in qadir" (there is no god but Allaah alone, with no partner or associate; His is the Dominion, to Him be all praise, and He has power over all things)."
8. Frequently remembering Allaah (Dhikr), which includes regularly reciting the Adhkaar which are to be said in various situations and when doing certain things
9. Wudhoo' and prayer
10. Refraining from unnecessary looking, speaking, eating and mixing with people, because going to extremes in these four matters weakens one's spirituality and makes it easy for the evil ones among mankind and the jinn to gain power over you.

sisterparkThis programme is recommended by our Shaykh 'Adil ibn Tahir al-Muqbil for all those people who complain of problems relating to:

  • Jinn;
  • Magic;
  • The evil eye.

The Shaykh said that he has used it for many years with a great deal of success, and it is particularly relevant for those who are waiting to see a Raaqi, or can't get access to one. The Shaykh calls it "The [Collection of] Cures" because it is made up of a number of things that we are told are Shifaa' in the Qur'aan and the Sunnah.

Before beginning:

Humble yourself before Allaah

Make Du'aa at the times when your Du'aa is accepted, like:

  • The time between the Adhaan and the Iqaamah;
  • The last third of the night;
  • Between 'Asr and Maghrib on a Friday.

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "Indeed on the day of Jumu'ah there is a period of time, no believing servant encounters it, asking Allaah for the good of this world and the next, except that he is given it."

You need to have the following things ready:

Water

I estimate you'll need 5 litres per person approximately, ideally Zam-Zam because of the hadeeth: "A food that satisfies and a cure from sickness", and the hadeeth "The water of Zam Zam is for whatever it is drunk for."

If Zam Zam is not available, then rain water should be collected, because Allaah said: "And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvest" [50:9]

Also, the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to uncover part of his garment when it rained, and he would say, "It has just come from its Lord." [Muslim]

If rain water is not available, then regular water is fine, but effort should be made to obtain rain water where Zam Zam is not available.

*Please do not delay the programme excessively waiting for Zam Zam or rain water - you can always add it later Inshaa' Allaah.

Olive Oil

One whole bottle per person should be enough, this should be organic Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil - in other words, it should be greenish in colour, not yellow like vegetable oil. I recommend organic Palestinian extra virgin olive oil, if you can get it, because it comes from a land that Allaah tells us is blessed. This is because Allaah describes it as "lit from [the oil of] a blessed tree - the olive" [24:35], and the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "Eat olive oil and oil yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree." [At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah - Authentic].

Honey

This should be raw & organic, and of good quality...not supermarket junk! You can get Sidr honey, also Manuka honey is well spoken of.

Allaah said, "There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought." [16:69] and the Messenger of Allaah (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "There is a cure in three substances, a drink of honey..." [al-Bukhari].

The Shaykh emphasised that a lot of people make a mistake in that they do not drink the honey, but they eat it, and the hadeeth is clear that the cure is in drinking it diluted in water.

Black Seeds

Again this should be organic - the scientific name is Nigella Sativa. This is because the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "It is a cure from every illness" [Bukhari and Muslim].

At the beginning of the week, you need to do the following:

Sit down with the water and olive oil open in front of you. Read the following:

(a) Al-Faatihah - seven times is best, or three if you wish.

(b) Al-Baqarah - once all the way through.

If you are unable to read Al-Baqarah, then read whatever is easy for you, or ask someone to read for you, if you struggle to read the Qur'aan.

(c) The last three surahs of the Qur'aan - three times each.

(d) Aayat-ul-Kursi [2:255] - seven times is best, or three if you wish.

Blow (as though you are spitting but without spittle), either at the end of each Surah, or after each Aayah, or whenever it is easy for you, into the water and the olive oil.

You can use smaller bottles and blow in each from time to time, or in all of them after each Aayah or each Surah, it's up to you. Perhaps it would be even more beneficial to read 2 litres at a time during the week, to get the most out of the reading. When you have completed all of the reading, you are now prepared to begin the programme.

How to use:

Take two tablespoons of honey and dissolve them in a cup of the water that you have read upon. Add seven seeds of black seed and drink. Do this three times per day.
Before sleep, anoint the entire body from head to foot with the olive oil that has been read upon.

Upon waking, wash the entire body with water and soap. Then, take half a cup of the water that has been read upon and add it to a bucket or other container. Fill up the bucket with water from the tap and wash the entire body.

Continue this for three whole days.

On day 4-7:

Use olive oil that has been read upon to anoint any areas where pain is found, if any.

Take two tablespoons of honey and dissolve them in a cup of the water that you have read upon. Add seven seeds of black seed and drink. Do this three times per day.

What to Expect:

On the first day, you will most likely not feel anything.

On the second and third day, you may feel very ill. You may feel excessive tiredness, pain all over the body, or in certain places, or aches and pains as though you carried out strenuous exercise.

By the fourth day, you may feel completely refreshed, as though you have a lot of energy - with the permission of Allaah.

The aches and pains will gradually go away, Inshaa' Allaah, over the course of the 7 days.

Videoicon4This video has been produced by Saudi Arabia's Government Agency: "General Presidency Of the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice". It sheds light on sorcery and black magic from the Islamic prospective.

Alhamdulillah, it is now with English subtitles for those who do not understand Arabic.

This video exposes the evil doings of sorcerers who commit blasphemy by witching people and harming them. Saudi Arabia has special police to track and persecute sorcerers.

Many diseases that science can't cure are caused by sorcery, in the west it is generally regarded as psychiatrist disease and only numbed by drugs with no cure. If you suffer from a disease and all your tests are normal, then you maybe witched or eyed.

audioiconfinalNottingham Islam presents a look into the World of Jinn with Brother Abu Muhammad who specialises in Ruqiyah.

Ruqyah is commonly translated in English as "incantation" which carries a negative meaning, since the word incantation is usually associated with magic, spells, and witchcraft. However, Ruqyah in Islam is the recitation of Qur'an, seeking of refuge, remembrance and supplications that are used as a means of treating sicknesses and other problems.

Beautiful Recitation of Surah's and Ayat to be used in Ruqyah (Qur'anic Healing).

Among the du'aa's which have been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to treat magic and other things is the ruqyah by means of which he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to treat his companions:

"Allaahumma Rabb an-naas, adhhib il-ba's, washfi anta al-Shaafi

laa shifaa'a illa shifaa'uka shifaa'an laa yughaadir saqaman

(O Allaah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and heal him, for You are the Healer and there is no healing except Your healing, with a healing which does not leave any disease behind).”

Hookah-Shisha-M-4010-

Besides the overwhelming majority of scholars declaring it as haraam for the attached reasons, there are serious health implications. Check these health warnings from hospitals and councils and take heed dear Brother and dear Sister.

Shaykh Abdul Majeed (Islam Channel and Luton Ghurabaa mosque) dealt with a possession of an individual. He spoke to the leader of the Jinn that were possessing that individual, asking why and where they possessed them.

The Jinn responded that they possessed the person through shisha and that there were over 140 of them in his/her body. Jinn live in impure places and according to the Shari'i definition, tobacco is classified as impure.

Stay away from these places, Muslim and Muslimah, for your health and Eemaan!!!

SISTERreadingqWhoever is affected by Sihr should not treat it with Sihr, because evil cannot be removed by evil, and Kufr cannot be removed by Kufr. Evil is removed by good. Hence when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about al-Nushrah (treating Sihr with Sihr), he said: “This is the work of the Shaytaan.” Nushrah means removing Sihr from a person who has been affected by it by using more Sihr. But if it is treated by means of the Qur’aan and permissible medicines or good Ruqyah, there is nothing wrong with that, but treating it with Sihr is not permitted, as previously stated, because Sihr means worshipping the shayaateen (devils). The Saahir (magician, practitioner of witchcraft) does Sihr or learns Sihr only after worshipping and serving the shayaateen, and drawing close to them by means of the things that they like. After that, they teach him the means of Sihr.

But, praise be to Allaah, there is no reason why the person who has been affected by Sihr should not be treated by means of reciting Qur’aan and the prayers for refuge with Allaah that are prescribed in Sharee’ah, and permissible medicines, just as patients with all kinds of sicknesses are treated by doctors. The patient does not necessarily recover, because not every sick person does recover. A sick patient might be treated and then recover if his appointed time (of death) has not yet arrived, or he may not recover and may die from this sickness, even though he may be been seen by the most skilled physicians and knowledgeable doctors. When the appointed time of death comes, no medicine or treatment will be of any avail, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And Allaah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes.” [al-Munaafiqoon 63:11]

Medical treatment is of benefit when the appointed time has not yet come, and Allaah decrees that His slave should be healed. The same applies in the case of one who has been affected by Sihr; Allaah may decree that he should recover, or He may not decree that, as a test and a trial, or for other reasons which are known to Allaah. Among those reasons may be the fact that the one who is treating him does not have the right treatment for this problem. It was narrated in a saheeh report that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “For every disease there is a medicine, and if that medicine is applied to the disease, he will recover by Allaah’s Leave.”

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has not sent down any disease but He has also sent down the cure; the one who knows it knows it and the one who does not know it does not know it.”

Among the treatments prescribed in Sharee’ah is the treatment of Sihr with recitation of the Qur’aan. The greatest Soorah in the Qur’aan, which is al-Faatihah, should be recited over the person who has been affected by Sihr. This should be repeated several times. If it is recited by a believing, righteous reader who knows that everything is subject to the will and decree of Allaah, that Allaah is in control of all things, that when He says to a thing ‘Be!’ it is, if the reciting is based on faith, taqwa and sincerity, and is repeated several times, then the Sihr may be removed and the person may recover by Allaah’s Leave.

Some of the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) passed by some Bedouins whose Shaykh, i.e., their leader, had been bitten. They had done everything they could but he had not gotten better. They said to one of the Sahaabah, “Is there any Raaqi (one who performs Ruqyah) among you?” They said, “Yes.” So one of them recited Soorat al-Faatihah over him, and he immediately got up full of energy as if nothing had happened; Allaah healed him of the ill-effects of that snakebite. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is nothing wrong with ruqyah so long as it does not involve Shirk.”

He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) performed Ruqyah and had it performed for him. There is a lot of good in Ruqyah, and a great deal of benefit. Al-Faatihah, Aayat al-Kursiy, “Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad”, al-Mu’wadhatayn and other verses may be recited over the person who has been affected by Sihr, as well as good Du’aa’s narrated in the ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), such as the Du’aa’ he said when he performed Ruqyah for a sick person and said,

“Allaahumma Rabb al-naas, adhhib il-ba’s, washfi anta al-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadir saqaman (O Allaah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and heal him, for You are the Healer and there is no healing except Your healing, with a healing which does not leave any disease behind).”

This may be repeated three times or more. And it was also narrated from him (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) that Jibreel (peace be upon him) performed Ruqyah for him and said three times:

“Bismillaah arqeeka min kulli shay’in yu’dheeka, wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasid Allaah yashfeek, bismillaah arqeek (In the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you, from every thing that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye may Allaah heal you, in the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you).”

hijaabThis is a great Ruqyah which was narrated in a Saheeh Hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It is prescribed to perform Ruqyah for the one who has been bitten or stung, and the one who has been affected by Sihr, and the one who is sick. There is nothing wrong with performing Ruqyah for one who is sick or has been affected by Sihr or bitten or stung, by reciting good Du’aa’s, even if they were not transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), so long as they do not contain anything that is Haraam, because of the general meaning of the Hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “There is nothing wrong with ruqyah so long as it does not involve shirk.”

Allaah may heal the sick person and the person affected by Sihr, and others, without any Ruqyah and without any action on the part of other people, because He is Able to do all things, and He is Wise in all that He does. Allaah says in His Holy Book:

“Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, ‘Be!’ and it is!” [Yaa-Seen 36:82]

To Him be praise and thanks for all that He wills and decrees, for He is wise in all that He does.

The sick person may not be healed if his appointed time has come and it is decreed that he should die from this disease. Among the things that may be used in Ruqyah are the verses which speak of Sihr, which may be recited into water. These are the verses about Sihr in Soorat al-A’raaf, where Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And We revealed to Moosa (saying): ‘Throw your stick,’ and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehood which they showed. Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. So they were defeated there and returned disgraced." [al-A’raaf 7:117-119]

And in Soorat Yoonus (interpretation of the meaning): “And Pharaoh said: ‘Bring me every well-versed sorcerer.’

And when the sorcerers came, Moosa said to them: ‘Cast down what you want to cast!’

Then when they had cast down, Moosa said: ‘What you have brought is sorcery, Allaah will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allaah does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidoon. And Allaah will establish and make apparent the truth by His Words, however much the Mujrimoon may hate (it).’” [Yoonus 10:79-82]

And in Soorat Ta-Ha (interpretation of the meaning): “They said: ‘O Moosa! Either you throw first or we be the first to throw?’

Moosa said: ‘Nay, throw you (first)!’ Then behold! their ropes and their sticks, by their magic, appeared to him as though they moved fast.

So Moosa conceived fear in himself. We (Allaah) said: ‘Fear not! Surely, you will have the upper hand.

And throw that which is in your right hand! It will swallow up that which they have made. That which they have made is only a magician’s trick, and the magician will never be successful, to whatever amount (of skill) he may attain.’” [Ta-Ha 20:65-69]

These verses are among the things by which Allaah causes the Ruqyah against Sihr to be beneficial. If the Qaari’ (reader) recites these verses into water, and also reads Soorat al-Faatiha, Aayat al-Kursiy, “Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad”, and al-Mi’wadhatayn into the water, then pours it over the person who he thinks has been affected by Sihr or is being prevented by magic from having intercourse with his wife, then he will be healed by Allaah’s Leave. If seven lotus leaves are ground up and added to the water as well, this is appropriate, as was mentioned by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Hasan (may Allaah have mercy on him) in Fath al-Majeed, quoting from some of the scholars in the chapter entitled "Ma jaa’a fi’l-Nushrah". It is mustahabb to recite the three soorahs, namely Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad, Qul A’oodhu bi Rabb il Falaq and Qul A’oodhu bi Rabb il-Naas. The point is that these and similar treatments which are used to treat this problem of Sihr, may also be used to treat the one who is prevented by magic from having intercourse with his wife. This has been tried a great deal and Allaah caused it to yield results. A person may be treated with al-Faatihah alone and be healed, or with Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad and al-Mi’wadhatayn on their own, and be healed.

It is very important that the person performing this treatment and the person who is being treated should both have sincere faith and trust in Allaah; they should know that He is control of all things and that when He wills a thing it happens, and when He does not will a thing it does not happen. The matter is in His hand, whatever He wills happens and whatever He does not will does not happen. When both the reader and the one who is read over have faith and are sincere towards Allaah, the sickness will disappear quickly by Allaah’s Leave, and both physical and spiritual medicine will be beneficial. We ask Allaah to help us all to please Him, for He is All-Hearing and is ever Near.

sisterquran67777The Arabic word al-‘ayn (translated as the evil eye) refers to when a person harms another with his eye. It starts when the person likes a thing, then his evil feelings affect it, by means of his repeated looking at the object of his jealousy. Allaah commanded His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to seek refuge with Him from the envier, as He said (interpretation of the meaning)

“And from the evil of the envier when he envies." [Al-Falaq 113:5]

Everyone who puts the evil eye on another is envious, but not every envier puts the evil eye on another. The word haasid (envier) is more general in meaning than the word ‘aa’in (one who puts the evil eye on another), so seeking refuge with Allaah from the one who envies includes seeking refuge with Him from the one who puts the evil eye on another. The evil eye is like an arrow which comes from the soul of the one who envies and the one who puts the evil eye on another towards the one who is envied and on whom the evil eye is put; sometimes it hits him and sometimes it misses. If the target is exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if the target is cautious and armed, the arrow will have no effect and may even come back on the one who launched it. (Adapted from Zaad al-Ma’aad)

There are ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which speak of the effects of the evil eye. For example it is narrated in al-Saheehayn that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said:

"The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to tell me to recite ruqyah for protection against the evil eye."

Muslim, Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath.” (This was classed as saheeh by al-Tirmidhi, and also by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1251.)

Imam Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi (2059, where he classed it as saheeh) narrated that Asma’ bint ‘Umays said: “O Messenger of Allaah, the children of Ja’far have been afflicted by the evil eye, shall we recite ruqyah for them?” He said, “Yes, for if anything were to overtake the divine decree it would be the evil eye.” (Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi)

Abu Dawood narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said:

"The person who had put the evil eye on another would be ordered to do wudoo’, then the person who had been afflicted would wash himself (with that water)." (This was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood)

Imam Ahmad (15550), Maalik (1811), al-Nasaa’i and Ibn Hibbaan narrated from Sahl ibn Haneef that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came out and traveled with him towards Makkah, until they were in the mountain pass of al-Kharaar in al-Jahfah. There Sahl ibn Haneef did ghusl, and he was a handsome white-skinned man with beautiful skin. ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah, one of Banu ‘Adiyy ibn Ka’b looked at him whilst he was doing ghusl and said:

“I have never seen such beautiful skin as this, not even the skin of a virgin,”

and Sahl fell to the ground. They went to Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, can you do anything for Sahl, because by Allaah he cannot raise his head.” He said, “Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?” They said, “ ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah looked at him.” So the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) called ‘Aamir and rebuked him strongly. He said,

“Why would one of you kill his brother? If you see something that you like, then pray for blessing for him.”

Then he said to him, “Wash yourself for him.” So he washed his face, hands, forearms, knees and the sides of his feet, and inside his izaar (lower garment) in the vessel. Then that water was poured over him, and a man poured it over his head and back from behind. He did that to him, then Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong with him. (Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Mishkaat, 4562)

The majority of scholars are of the view that people can indeed be afflicted by the evil eye, because of the ahaadeeth quoted above and others, and because of the corroborating reports and other evidence.

The author of Nayl al-Awtaar said that al-Bazzaar narrated with a hasan isnaad from Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Most of those who die among my ummah die because of the will and decree of Allaah, and then because of the evil eye.”

The Muslim has to protect himself against the devils among the evil jinn and mankind, by having strong faith in Allaah and by putting his trust in Him and seeking refuge with Him and beseeching Him, reciting the prayers for protection narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), reciting al-Mua'wadhatayn [the last two soorahs of the Qur’aan], Soorat al-Ikhlaas, Soorat al-Faatihah, and Aayat al-Kursi.

Du’aa’s for protection include the following:

A’oodhu bi kalimaat-illaah il-taammati min sharri ma khalaqa (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from the evil of that which He has created).

A’oodhu bi kalimaat-illaah il-taammati min ghadabihi wa ‘iqaabihi, wa min sharri ‘ibaadihi wa min hamazaat al-shayaateeni wa an yahduroon (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from His wrath and punishment, from the evil of His slaves and from the evil promptings of the devils and from their presence).

And one may recite the words of Allaah:

“Hasbi Allaahu laa ilaaha illa huwa, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa Rabb ul-‘arsh il-‘azeem

(Allaah is sufficient for me. Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) in Him I put my trust and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne)” [al-Tawbah 9:129 – interpretation of the meaning]

And there are other similar du’aa’s that are prescribed in sharee’ah.

If it is known or suspected that a person has been afflicted by the evil eye, then the one who put the evil eye on him should be ordered to wash himself for his brother. So a vessel of water should be brought, and he should put his hand in it, rinse out his mouth into the vessel. Then he should wash his face in the vessel, then put his left hand into the vessel and wash his right knee, then put his right hand in the vessel and wash his left knee. Then he should wash inside his garment. Then the water should be poured over the head of the one on whom he put the evil eye, pouring it from behind in one go. Then he will be healed, by Allaah’s leave. (Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Ifta, 1/186)

Shaykh Muhammad al-Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen was asked:

"Can the evil eye afflict a person? How is it treated? Does being on one's guard against it contradict putting one's trust in Allaah?"

He replied: Our opinion concerning the evil eye is that it is real and is proven both by Islamic teachings and by real life experiences. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes (through hatred)” [al-Qalam 68:51]

Ibn ‘Abbaas and others said, commenting on this verse:

"This means, they put the evil eye on you with their glances."

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath.” (Narrated by Muslim. Al-Nasaa’i and Ibn Maajah narrated that ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah passed by Sahl ibn Haneef when he was bathing… and he quoted the hadeeth.)

Reality confirms that and it cannot be denied.

In the event that you are afflicted by the evil eye, you should use the treatments recommended in sharee’ah, which are:

1 – Reciting ruqyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “There is no ruqyah except in the case of the evil eye or fever.” (Al-Tirmidhi, 2057; Abu Dawood, 3884) Jibreel used to do ruqyah for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and say,

“Bismillaahi arqeeka min kulli shay’in yu’dheeka, min sharri kulli nafsin aw ‘aynin haasid Allaahu yashfeek, bismillaahi arqeek (In the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye may Allaah heal you, in the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you).”

2 – Asking the person who has put the evil eye on another to wash, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded ‘Aamir ibn Rabee’ah to do in the hadeeth quoted above. Then the water should be poured over the one who has been afflicted.

With regard to taking his waste, such as his urine and stools, there is no basis for doing so; the same applies to taking any of his belongings. Rather what is narrated is that which is mentioned above, washing his limbs and washing inside his garment, or likewise washing inside his headgear and garments. And Allaah knows best.

There is nothing wrong with taking precautions against the evil eye before it happens, and this does not contradict the idea of tawakkul (putting one's trust in Allaah). In fact this is tawakkul, because tawakkul means putting one’s trust in Allaah whilst also implementing the means that have been permitted or enjoined. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to seek refuge for al-Hasan and al-Husayn and say:

"U’eedhukuma bi kalimaat Allaah al-taammati min kulli shaytaanin wa haammah wa min kulli ‘aynin laammah (I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allaah, from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye).’” (Al-Tirmidhi, 2060; Abu Dawood, 4737. And he would say,

“Thus Ibraaheem used to seek refuge with Allaah for Ishaaq and Ismaa’eel, peace be upon them both.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3371. - Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 2/117, 118)

jilbaabpatience"It is Sunnah to learn ruqyah as prescribed in sharee’ah, seeking to benefit the Muslims and treat these chronic diseases, because the Book of Allaah is a beneficial healing. But it is not permissible for a non-mahram man to touch any part of a woman’s body when doing ruqyah, and it is not permissible for her to uncover any part of her body such as her chest, neck, etc. He should recite over her even if she is covered, and this will be of benefit no matter where the pain is. It is also Sunnah for some of the sisters who can read Qur’aan to be taught how to do ruqyah so that they can use it to help modest women. And Allaah knows best." (Al-Lu’lu al-Makeen min Fataawaa Ibn Jibreen, p. 23)

***

"It is haraam for a man to be alone with a woman who is not his mahram, even if that is for the purpose of treating her with ruqyah by reciting Qur’aan, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No man is alone with a (non-mahram) woman, but the Shaytaan is the third one present.”

These are means that lead to evil and corruption.

Any Muslim woman who has done such a thing has to repent sincerely from that, and not go back to such evil deeds. And Allaah is the Source of strength." (Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Ifta’, 17/63.)

***

"It is not permissible for the raaqi to touch any part of a woman’s body when he is doing ruqyah for her, because of the fitnah (temptation) involved in that. He should recite over her without touching. There is a difference between what the raaqi does and what a doctor does, because the doctor may not be able to treat a patient without touching the site of the problem that he is treating. This is unlike the raaqi whose work – reciting Qur’aan then blowing on the person – does not depend on touching. And Allaah knows best." (Al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah li’l-Buhooth al-‘Ilmiyyah wa’l-Iftaa’)

NightSkyPeople who have had experience with such situations have related that the following are among the signs of a person who is possessed by jinn (or Satan):

  • Strong repulsion when hearing Qur’aan or Aathaan (call for prayers).
  • Episodes of losing consciousness and/or epileptic attacks, especially when Qur’aan is recited for the possessed person.
  • Frequent nightmares during sleep.
  • Tendency to avoid people accompanied by out-of-the-norm behavior.
  • The jinn who possesses him might speak when Qur’aan is recited for the possessed person.
  • Madness, as stated in the Qur’aan (interpretation of the meaning):

"Those who devour usury will not stand except as stands one whom Satan by his touch hath driven to [epileptic] madness…" (2:275)

As for a person struck by magic he might experience the following:

  • Dislike of one’s spouse, as indicated in the Qur’aan by the following verse (interpretation of the meaning):

"And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife..." (Al-Baqarah, 2:102).

  • Different attitude in the house from that which is outside the house. For example, a person will feel that he is missing his family when is outside the house but when he goes home, love changes quickly to extreme hatred.
  • Inability to have sexual intercourse with one’s spouse.
  • Frequent miscarriage for pregnant women.
  • Sudden change in behavior without obvious reason.
  • Complete loss of appetite for food.
  • Thinking or imagining one has done something when in reality one has not.
  • Sudden obedience and/or love for a particular person.

It should be noted that if a person experiences some of the above symptoms this does not necessarily mean that he is either possessed by a jinn or struck by black magic. It might be due to physiological or psychological reasons.

As for curing this condition the following steps are recommended:

  • Putting one’s trust in Allah with sincere belief that He is the only cure for everything.
  • Reading Qur’aan and known supplications expressing seeking refuge, the most important and effective of which is sura 113 and 114, Al-Falaq and Al-Naas, which were used to cure the Prophet himself. Surah 112, Al-Ikhlaas, is recommended along with them, as well as the opening chapter of the Qur’aan, Al-Fatihah.
  • To cure black magic some have successfully used seven lotus-tree leaves. The leaves should be crushed, then mixed them with water enough for taking a bath. The following verses from the Qur’aan are then recited: verse Al-Kursi (2:255), surah Al-Kafiroon (109), surah 112, 113, 114; the verses which mention magic, which are: in surah Al-Baqarah (2:102), Al-A’raaf (3:117-119), Yunus (10:79-82), and Taha (20:65-69). The possessed person drinks some of the water, and the rest is used to give him a bath.
  • Removing the elements of magic as was done by the Prophet when he was struck by black magic by a Jewish man called Lubaid Ben Al-‘Aasim.
  • Eating seven Aa’liya Al-Barniy dates (among the dates of Al-Madinah) first thing in the morning; if not possible, any dates will suffice, by the will of Allaah.
  • Cupping--removing excess blood.

alpenglowIslam has great importance to supplicating. As it is direct means of communication with our Allah. Supplication is the means through which the Slaves communicate directly with Allah. This Book of supplication (Hisnul-Muslim) has a wide variety of supplications ranging from Morning and Evening supplications, supplications in the Salah, in anxiety and sorrow, when visiting the sick and many more.

toiletjinnOne of the fatal consequences of leaving the guidance of the Prophet (sallallahu alyhi wa sallam) is that we find people facing many problems which are metaphysical and which many a time result in bringing about severe and tragic physical consequences. One such problem is the problem of jinn-possession and black magic. Although this is a matter encompassing various dimensions, in this article I wish to highlight one of the places inhabited by the Jinn with the hope of bringing about awareness and precaution for which there is a dire need. Indeed Allah is the One from Whom help is sought.

For many, the Islaamic etiquettes pertaining to the lavatory may seem trivial and of little consequence if neglected. In fact, such heedlessness could result in fatal consequences as the lavatory is a place inhabited by the Jinns and a Muslim should not go into this demonic habitation unarmed and unprotected. A sister has given me her kind permission to share with all of you how she was possessed by a Jinn:

She says that it started with her seeing a woman who looked just like her [the difference being that her hair was untidy and puffed-up], sitting on the kitchen surface  staring at her whilst she was in her kitchen. The strangest thing is that this sister didn’t tell anyone about what she saw, since she herself was possessed and therefore the abnormal for her became the norm. Strange occurrences began and she started losing herself as the days continued to pass. In her lavatory she would often see stains of blood, this was surprising to her since no one was in her home nor had anyone been injured or hurt etc, so where on earth was this blood coming from? Her worries increased and her condition continued to worsen. In fact, many people witness blood in their bathrooms, for example, another family saw recurring blood on their bathroom window…

Let’s turn to the words of Allah (azza wa jall) and al Mustafaa, Muhammad (sallallahu alyhi wa sallam) for an answer and to relieve such fearful hearts from their confusion.

Allah (azza wa jall) says: {Verily, he [Shaytaan] and Qabeeluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them.} [Qur’aan: 7:27]

This verse of the Qur’aan clearly elucidates a dimension of this temporal and transient abode which many are sadly ignorant and unaware of. Yes, there is a creation that sees us, yet in ordinary circumstance we do not see them.

This verse and the hadeeth quoted are an evident and sufficient proof that

  1. The jinn can see us, even if under normal circumstances we can’t see them.
  2. They inhabit places in which humans relieve themselves.

Muhtadirah

‘Certainly these toilets are visited by the jinn.’ [Abu Dawood [6] and Ibn Maajah [296]]

In this hadeeth the term ‘Hushoosh’ refers to toilets and the term ‘Muhtadharah’ means that they are haunted and therefore inhabited by the jinn. The Prophet (sallallahu alyhi wa sallam) very clearly and emphatically has described for us the reality of the lavatories we regularly visit. The scholars say that the reason why devils frequent such places where humans relieve themselves is to do them harm.  That is why it is not befitting for a person to stay in the place in which he relieves himself more than the time needed; since this is a place one should exercise caution as satan loves places which are filthy and dirty. The lavatory is not visited by the angels because the angels run away from places where the evil jinns are present, just like the evil jinns run away from pure places where the angels are present. As a matter of fact, staying in the lavatory without need brings about waswaas (satanic whispers) and suspicion (in the deen). Therefore a person may be struck and inflicted with a type of matter, the end of which is not praised.

This does not mean that a person runs away from such places, or stops going to answer the call of nature! Without a doubt, it is a blessing from Allah, that we are able to find a hidden and decent place to relieve ourselves, and to be able to hide our awrah (private parts) from the eyes of others. Keeping that in mind it is of utmost importance that we do not forget about the on-lookers, who may be watching you as the minutes fly by. Sadly, the magazines and newspapers present next to the toilet seat, or on the toilet’s window ledge, tell a story of ignorance or even worse, purposeful negligence. In fact, they act as red lights flashing the signal of a possibility of imminent danger which can threaten the peace of mind and sanity of those who spend unneeded procrastinated periods of time in the toilet. If they knew what was watching them, I’m sure they would find a more suitable place to read their monthly magazines.

The following are some etiquettes pertaining to the usage of the lavatory:

Enter the toilet with the left foot first. Ibn Hajar in Fathul Baaree says that "…it may be understood by some by the Prophet's love of beginning good and pure things with the right hand/side that this (entering the toilet) falls into the opposite category.”

Say the Basmalah [i.e. Bismillah] before entering the toilet. The Prophet [sallallahu a’lyhi wa sallam] said: "To put a barrier that will prevent the jinn from seeing the 'awrah of the sons of Aadam, let any one of you say 'Bismillaah' when entering the toilet." [Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 551; Saheeh al-Jaami', 3611] and also: Al-Tirmidhi (no. 606) narrated from ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “A screen will be placed between the eyes of the jinn and the ‘awrah of the sons of Adam when one of them enters the toilet, if he says ‘Bismillaah (in the name of Allaah).” [Al-Tirmidhi (no. 606].

Read the following du’a:

duatoilet
"In the Name of Allaah; my 'ilãh I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (shayateen, which is the plural for shaytan)."

[Narrated by Anas bin Maalik and collected in Saheeh al-Bukharee (Volume 1, Book 4, Number 144) and Saheeh Muslim (Book 003, Number 729).]

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“The benefit of saying Bismillaah is that it conceals a person. The benefit of seeking refuge with Allaah is that one is turning to Allaah from evil and from the male and female devils, for this place is filthy (khabeeth) and a filthy place is the abode of those who are evil (khubatha’).  So it is the abode of the devils. Thus it is appropriate if one wants to enter the toilet to say “A’oodhu Billaah min al-khubthi wa’l-khabaa’ith (I seek refuge with Allaah from evil and from the male and female devils)” so that he will not be harmed by evil or by the evil souls.” [Al-Sharh al-Mumti’, 1/83.]

So, maybe it’s time to listen to the ipod in another place...
